Myositis Ossificans of the Psoas Muscle After Compression Fracture of Lumbar Spine: CT and MR Imaging Findings
نویسندگان
چکیده
plastic formation of heterotopic bone in the skeletal muscle (1-5). Although myositis ossificans can occur anywhere in the body following trauma, it is predominantly localized to high-risk sites of injury, such as large muscles of the extremities (2-4). Most lesions are related to direct major trauma or repeated minor injuries. No history of trauma is present in approximately 40% of patients (2, 3). In the English medical literature, there are many reports on myositis ossificans that included radiographic, CT and MR imaging findings (1-7). The CT and MR imaging findings of myositis ossificans involving the psoas muscle have been reported twice (2, 7). We could not identify any reports on CT and MR imaging findings of the psoas muscle following lumbar spine fracture in the radiological literature. We report the CT and MR imaging findings of a 64-year-old man who developed myositis ossificans of the psoas muscle following lumbar spine fracture.

Extra osseous uptake of 99mTc-MDP in psoas muscle on bone scintigraphy: Importance of SPECT/CT imaging
Incidental extra-osseous uptake of 99mTc-MDP on bone scintigraphy has been frequently reported in the literature; however, calcification of the psoas muscle is a rare condition, which has been reported on magnetic resonance (MR) and computed tomography (CT) imagings. Here we report a 67-year-old woman with acute paraplegia and low back pain who was referred for a 99mTc-MDP...

Metastasis of gastroesphageal junction (GEJ) adenocarcinoma in skeletal muscle is rare and primary sites for skeletal muscle metastases are usually lung, renal and colorectal cancer. We have encountered with the first case report of solitary psoas muscle metastasis of GEJ adenocarcinoma. Here we describe a 65 years old man was diagnosed with GEJ adenocarcinoma in tertiary hospital, Tehran, Iran...
متن کاملAnkylosing neurogenic myositis ossificans of the hip. An enhanced volumetric CT study.
Neurogenic myositis ossificans is a disabling condition affecting the large joints of patients with severe post-traumatic impairment of the central nervous system. It can result in ankylosis of the joint and vascular or neural compression. Surgery may be hazardous with potential haemorrhage, neurovascular injury, iatrogenic fracture and osteochondral injury. We undertook pre-operative volumetri...
متن کاملNon-Traumatic Myositis Ossificans in the Lumbar Spine
BACKGROUND Myositis ossificans is a non-neoplastic benign reactive bone and cartilage matrix-producing pseudotumor that develops in skeletal muscles adjacent to the joint. The clinical and pathologic appearance of myositis ossificans varies depending on the time elapsed after heterotopic bone formation. Although its etiology is unclear, it usually occurs at the site of the injured muscle, most ...
متن کاملTuberculous Abscess of the Psoas Muscle in a Patient with Acute Lumbar Burst Fracture: A Missed Diagnosis
The authors present a rare case of tuberculous spondylitis and a large abscess in the left psoas muscle that occurred after spinal surgery for an acute traumatic burst fracture of the L2 vertebral body. We retrospectively reviewed the patient's first magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) we found that some unusual findings, indicative of psoas abscess had been overlooked. As a result, diagnosis and ...
